I am excited to be here today, representing the United States Government, at the opening of Moldova’s National Wine Day.
It is an exciting day for all of us at the U.S. Embassy, and all of Moldova to see this tradition re-started.
As you may know, the United States Government, through USAID, has supported diversification of exports to high-value EU and other global markets, as well as supporting wine tourism as an enabler for sustainable, inclusive and resilient development of rural communities. The United States will continue to support the industry in the future.
Wine of Moldova is a vision that unites all Moldovans – collaborating for the success of the wine industry and the country, and unveiling undiscovered gems of Moldovan wines. It is also an exciting opportunity to showcase Moldova as the small country with a big heart demonstrated through various means, but especially by supporting Ukrainian refugees.
Moldova continues to reaffirm itself among the top fine wine producing countries in the world by winning over 4,000 medals in the last five years. I can attest that Moldova produces some of the best wine in the world.
I congratulate the wine producers on these amazing achievements, and if I may say so, delicious wines!
The Moldovan wine industry has achieved outstanding results due to the industry’s capacity to revive itself, innovate, and work together as part of one big team – your first and one-of-a-kind Public Private Partnership (the Office of Vine and Wine). We encourage each one of you to persevere, to foster and safeguard Moldova’s wine heritage, and to keep Moldova’s legend alive for many centuries to come!
Today, I invite all of you to try – and buy! – locally-produced wines, knowing that you are enjoying some of the top wines in the world.
I applaud your hard work and wish you a very successful event.
