Demonstration Message for U.S. Citizens: Demonstrations On July 28, 2015

The U.S. Embassy in Chisinau informs U.S. citizens in Moldova about the following ongoing protests and planned demonstrations:

Our Home Moldova Party is protesting non-stop near Vlad Plahotniuc’s residence, located on 41 Bulgara Street.  The Our Home Moldova Party will also protest in front of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (90 Columna Street) and in front of Vlad Plahotniuc’s office (Global Buisness Center, 1/1 Cantemir Dimitrie Blvd).  The specific times and number of participants is currently undeclared.

July 28, 2015 at 19:00 the civic platform “Dignity and Truth” will protest near the Stefan cel Mare monument.  The participants will protest against the rising price for electricity, gas and subsequently water and food. Approximately 200 people are expected to participate.

The political movement “Antimafie” is also planning to protest July 28, 2015 at 18:00 in front of the Parliament Building.  The Parliament building is located at 105 Stefan cel Mare Blvd.  Participants will protest against the current government and against the alliance that did not accept the appointment of Maia Sandu as Prime Minister. “Antimafie” is also organizing a protest tomorrow July 29, 2015 and future protests against the government.  Approximately 500 people are expected to participate.

The Embassy reminds U.S. citizens that demonstrations and large events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational.  Avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.  Large public gatherings can affect all major incoming arteries to the city in which they occur.  Demonstrations in one city have the potential to lead to additional public rallies or demonstrations in other locations around the city and country.
