The U.S. Embassy in Chisinau informs U.S. citizens in Moldova that multiple demonstrations, meetings, marches, and protests have been planned around the city of Chisinau during the week of May 4 including, but not limited to, the following:
- On May 6, 2015 a march will be organized from 15:00 till 17:00. The march will proceed along the following route: Memorial “Eternity”- Pan Halipa str.-Ismail str.-31 August 1989 str.- the Cathedral ”Teodor Tiron.” Number of expected participants 1000 persons.
- On May 7, the Motherland Euro Asian Union is planning a Saint George ribbon march, followed by a meeting on the Main Square. The number of expected participants is 5,000.
- On May 8, starting at 14:00, a meeting to commemorate the victims of WWII is planned in front of the Komsomolits monument on Grigore Vieru Blvd. It is expected to draw 7,000 participants.
The Embassy reminds U.S. citizens that demonstrations and large events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational. Avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations. Large public gatherings can affect all major incoming arteries to the city in which they occur. Demonstrations in one city have the potential to lead to additional public rallies or demonstrations in other locations around the city and country.
We strongly recommend U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Moldova to enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency. If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
