The American Resource Center (ARC) is administered by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, Moldova. The mission of the ARC is to provide information about the United States of America – its society, politics, history, economy, democratic traditions, holidays, and other issues of interest to the Moldovan audience.
ARC patrons include educators, students, Moldovan government officials, members of the Moldovan media, representatives of non-governmental organizations, legal professionals, librarians, and the general Moldovan public.
To facilitate the research needs of our growing audience, the ARC provides access to a variety of traditional and electronic resources, including several online databases. The ARC also provides internet access and basic computer accessibility at six public workstations. Additionally, the ARC has a wide collection of books and DVDs, which are available for loan to registered ARC patrons.
The ARC also hosts programs to introduce and highlight different aspects of American culture, including movie screenings, book discussion clubs, digital video conferences, speaker events, and themed exhibitions.
The ARC is opened Monday – Tuesday from 13.00 to 18.00, Wednesday, Friday from 10.00 18.00 and Thursday from 13.00-18.45. Lunch from 12.00 to 13.00.
The ARC is closed on all U.S. and Moldovan holidays.
ARC Debate Club
The ARC Debate Club invites you to join us as we continue to offer everybody the opportunity to voice their thoughts on current/fresh topics. At our Debate Club, you can sharpen your skills related to critical thinking, effective communication, independent research, and teamwork. We use Karl Popper’s debate format. We meet every Wednesday from 15.00 to 17.00.
If you are looking for a place to practice speaking English, the Conversation Hour is an excellent choice! Come join our Club for two hours to polish your English conversation skills related to a variety of topics. We meet every Thursday from 15.00 to 17.00.
Meet an American
This event gives our patrons a valuable and exclusive opportunity to meet American Officers from the U.S. Embassy Chisinau. Representatives of different sections come in front of our patrons to talk about different intercultural programs, American culture and values, etc. Meet an American is also a great opportunity to communicate in English with a native speaker.
Why play board games in the 21st century? Because you hang out with your friends, you make new friends, you actually socialize, and it is a lot of fun. Board games always change – each time you take it out, there is something new.
This is a special course designed for only 5 participants, which learn all about photography and how to operate with cameras. At the end of the course everyone will be able to tell us a story with a series of pictures, show cased in an exhibition at ARC.
The STEAM Club is a program that celebrates the intersection of science, technology, engineering, art, and math! All five parts are a great combination to create something memorable that gives you broad perspectives on how to apply all your knowledge.
Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Club
DIY is the process of using everyday materials to create various types of art. Projects highlight various cultural events, gift ideas, room décor, and edible art.
