As of July 21, 2021, Deputy Chief of Mission Laura Hruby has assumed charge as Chargé d’Affaires a.i.
A career Foreign Service Officer since 2002, Laura Hruby is the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau. Prior to this assignment, she most recently represented the United States abroad as the Deputy Chief of Mission and Charge d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Cotonou, Benin. Laura previously served overseas at the U.S. Embassies in Moscow, Islamabad, and Baku and the Consulate General in Istanbul. In Washington, she led the team coordinating the provision of consular services and information to U.S. citizens in Europe, was Special Assistant to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Overseas Citizens Services, and served as the Ethiopia desk officer.
Laura is a distinguished graduate of the National Defense University, where she received a Master of Science degree in Strategic Security Studies. She also holds a Bachelor of Science from Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service. Laura speaks Russian and French, and is studying Romanian. A native of Hudson, Ohio, she will be joined in Chisinau by her husband and their two sons.
