Funding opportunity: Increasing representation of minority groups in political parties

The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that support increasing the capacity of minority leaders and increase representation of minority groups in political parties.

Project Description

The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that support increasing the capacity of minority leaders and increase representation of minority groups in political parties.

DRL’s objective is to increase civic and political participation of ethnic minorities in Moldova. Moldova’s ethnic minorities remain underrepresented in mainstream political parties and government, undermining their trust in the political process and government authorities. Additional work remains to be done to ensure that minority voices are properly represented in policy-making and government in order to improve trust between individuals from Moldova’s minority communities and Chisinau, promote inter-ethnic cooperation, and make Moldova’s parties and government more representative of the country as a whole. The DRL program will work to increase the capacity of minority leaders and increase representation of minority groups in political parties. Activities could include, but are not limited to: training minority civic leaders and NGOs to effectively engage in political advocacy and to participate in the decision-making process; providing opportunities for participants to network with other minority leaders both within Moldova and through regional civil society networks; and targeting training for civic leaders and NGOs on advocacy skills, legal rights and enforcement, organizational management, community organizing, or communication skills.
