On Friday, May 19 in Washington, D.C. International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Deputy Assistant Secretary Daniel Foote signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Moldovan Minister of Internal Affairs Alexandru Jizdan that reinforced both sides’ commitments to reforming and modernizing law enforcement practices and institutions in Moldova. The memorandum signing was the culmination of a week of INL Chisinau-sponsored consultations for the Moldovan delegation, which also included Moldova’s Chief of Police Alexandru Pinzari, that featured visits to the Diplomatic Security Interim Training Facility in West Virginia, the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and meetings with government agencies and NGOs. Areas of particular focus for the Moldovan delegation included trafficking in persons, violence against women, and community policing.
