Rediscovering Moldova’s cinema heritage

The U.S. Embassy and Moldova Film proudly announce the TV presentation of a series of archive feature and documentary films representing an important part of Moldova’s historical, cultural, and artistic heritage. In order to restore and preserve this heritage, the U.S. Embassy has helped equip an $80,000 digitization laboratory within the Moldova Film studio. In the upcoming months we will bring to the Moldovan public 30 of the most valuable feature and documentary films that Moldova has produced.

Ambassador Dereck J. Hogan:Over the last 30 years, our two countries have built a strong partnership based on respect, friendship, and mutual understanding.

In this spirit of partnership, the United States Embassy has been proud to support various projects to protect Moldova’s rich cultural heritage.

Over nearly 70 years, Moldova Film has produced outstanding works that represent Moldova’s rich storytelling tradition and give us a picture of how Moldovans lived, worked, and dreamed years ago.

The American Embassy was proud to work with Moldova Film to digitize dozens of films and documentaries to make them available for viewing and preserve them for future generations.”

The first film Se cauta un paznic (1967) will be presented on Moldova 1 TV on February 27 at 13:30. The full list of the films and their screening schedule will be posted on the Embassy’s FB page.

All films will be screened in their original language with Romanian subtitles.
