September 22, 2021

The USAID Model Court Project was launched today. At the opening ceremony Laura Hruby, U.S. Embassy Charge d’Affaires a.i., expressed hope this project will have a significant impact on the judiciary in Moldova.

“As Secretary Blinken said, rule of law is a cornerstone of democracy. Without it, a society cannot advance. Through the Model Court Project, we continue our partnership with Moldovan courts to create judicial centers of excellence that provide services to their communities. We are also supporting national efforts to strengthen the judicial system”.

The project will be implemented in two selected first instance pilot courts in Balti and Ungheni, and aims to create standards of excellence for other courts throughout Moldova to emulate.

The Model Court Project will also provide national-level assistance to help with IFCE institutionalization, court performance monitoring and strategic planning, judicial leadership, community engagement, a grants program, and improvements regarding the Integrated Case Management System.

The Model Court Project period of performance is January 2021 to January 2024 with a budget of 5.6 million USD.
